Plastic Canvas Tips and Tricks

HERE ARE SOME TIPS AND TRICKS I'VE LEARNED WHILE DOING PLASTIC CANVAS FOR ALMOST MY WHOLE LIFE.  I HOPE THEY ARE HELPFUL AND MAYBE EVEN NEW TO YOU!  MOST OF ALL, I WANT THEM TO HELP YOU TO BE ABLE TO KEEP ON STITCHING NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS.

Embroidery
  • As it is with cross-stitch fabric, the larger the number the more stitches per inch or the smaller the stitch itself.  The count number refers to the number of stitches per inch.  For example, 7 count canvas means there are 7 stitches per inch and 10 count canvas has 10 stitches per inch.

  • If your canvas tears, just use the tip of a glue gun to melt the bars back together. DO NOT ACTUALLY USE HOT GLUE, USE AN EMPTY GLUE GUN.  I use a low-temp glue gun.  Just lay the pieces close together so they are touching and just touch the tip of the glue gun to the canvas and hold for approximately 3 seconds to melt the canvas together again.  It works best if you only need to melt a few bars and the piece is still partially connected.

  • Use wooden frames or other designer frames to help give your finished piece a more polished look.  You can even have them professionally matted and framed.
